Medical educators are central to the academic learning environment. As such, it is critical that faculty effort is recognized and rewarded. Many institutions utilize annual reviews and promotion portfolios to document educator activities. Though the intent is to highlight faculty investment in patient care, research, and education, current models are not adept at capturing the dynamic nature of each individual’s academic responsibilities. Academic health centers must therefore define a customized framework that evaluates and rewards the modern medical educator. We will present best practices for the design and delivery of a model to evaluate faculty effort, customizable to the unique needs of different academic health centers. Participants will actively develop a comprehensive Faculty Effort Reporting (FER) Model that assesses all domains of educator activities. By the end of the session, attendees will be able to identify educator activities and develop a system for automatization of the faculty effort calculation.
