Often, medical school admissions processes operate in a silo. Admissions Committees do not consistently hear back about how students are doing once they enroll. Admissions criteria such as thresholds for MCAT and GPA or pre-requisite courses may not be informed by performance outcome data. Many schools also utilize some form of situational judgement test for selection or interview, and the outcomes of these admissions tools are not compared with educational data. Schools may not be engaging in consistent continuous quality improvement to ensure admissions criteria continue to be accurate or predictive of success. Student populations vary over time and evaluation of the admissions criteria is as necessary as evaluation of the curriculum.
