This qualitative study identified themes of effective clerkships from medical student evaluations of clerkships (N = 180): organization/communication, preceptor passion, pedagogy/assessment, and clinical learning environment. Results indicate clerkships overly focused on pedagogy/assessment may miss substantial improvement opportunities, as organization/communication and preceptor passion was equally important as pedagogy/assessment to medical students.
