In 2021, AAMC, AACOM and ACGME launched a co-sponsored initiative to create a common set of foundational competencies for use in undergraduate medical education programs to describe the outcomes expected of all graduating medical students prior to entering residency and ultimately improve the transition to residency. After multiple rounds of feedback, the final set will be released late 2024.
