In the current environment, most applicants submit many applications to maximize their chances of matching with a desirable program. For applicants this leads to a burdensome application process due to the inordinate amount of time spent identifying places to apply and perhaps preference signal. Meanwhile, program directors must review an increasingly large number of applications.
