Implementation of simulation-based education (SBE) and case-based learning (CBL) is expanding throughout preclinical medical curricula. Yet effective, efficient simulation design and high-quality debriefing of these events remains a challenge for novice and experienced faculty alike. Simulation events adhering to the Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice have the power to stretch student thinking with enduring experience. This workshop will allow participants to first learn applicable education theory and simulation design process comparing ADDIE to Kern’s 6 principles, then work in small groups to apply appropriate educational theories to design a simulation scenario and event and apply debriefing practices.
